Dear Community Pharmacy Staff & Customers,
I hope you and your wonderful team are all keeping well during the global crisis we are currently facing.
I would like to commend the great work that Community Pharmacies and their teams are doing under extreme conditions. Community Pharmacy is at the heart of patient care and is a resource that the NHS does not fully appreciate. Likewise, I’d like to thank the customers who have continued to use Community Pharmacies while using masks, safe social distancing, and other measures to keep the staff and themselves safe.
As you have heard, NHS is focused on many different health conditions and weight loss is going to be critical for the next several months and Community Pharmacy will play a critical roll in that. On October 4th, I have set myself a challenge as part of the Virtual Virgin London Marathon to run 26.2 miles to various Community Pharmacies across Kingston & Richmond. I hope to bring attention to the need for people to continue Covid-19 safety practices, for people to get into better shape while losing some of the weight gained during isolation as well as continuing to use Community Pharmacies because they are the backbone of the NHS.
Finally, I would also like to draw attention to fighting the devastating disease Dementia. I’ve selected The Alzheimer’s Society. I am hoping to raise a minimum of £2,000.

Covid-19 was a ‘perfect storm’ of disruption for Independent pharmacies as well as for our patients and we are here to help.
Let’s begin with focusing on the impact on our patients as they are the reason we are in business. Lockdown means the average person has gained 2 – 10kg whilst sitting in their homes waiting for the worst of the pandemic to pass. Weight gain is a serious health condition as well as a mental challenge as many people place a great deal of pride in their appearance. Physically there is the issue of going into public spaces and interacting with people which now puts those who are overweight at much higher risk.
On the side of the pharmacy, our footfall has slowed to a crawl. Not only have sales declined in prescriptions and other product sales, our speciality offerings like Travel Clinics are now wiped out because people can’t travel. Not only are independent pharmacies in trouble, we’ve also read the headlines that multiples are cutting staff because they are suffering in this business environment as well. Creative business solutions are needed for every independent pharmacy to survive, let alone thrive, in a post Covid-19 world.
Shilpa & Raj Patel, previous owners of Nelson Pharmacy in Wimbledon, have been offering weight loss solutions for the past 15 years. Most of you will know Raj as he was a long time independent pharmacy owner who graced the covers of many industry magazine and won multiple awards. Additionally, he focused on creative marketing to build programs which generated new revenue streams for his locations; this was the key to his success. He sold his business because he wanted to help the greater independent pharmacy industry grow in the face of tremendous challenges facing the industry.
One of the revenue streams was a weight loss clinic that generated thousands of pounds of revenue and it was run by his wife and business partner, Shilpa. For over 14 years Shilpa grew the weight loss clinic revenues by being the “partner” to the pharmacy patients to help them with guidance, tracking, and the emotional support many needed to achieve their weight management goals. It is important to note that as Shilpa provided this service for over 14 years, this is a long term business growth strategy. Covid-19 has changed the methods to run a weight loss clinic and we are here to announce how we can work together.
We are happy to introduce our virtual weight loss clinic which means we now use the technology people have been forced to adopt in their lives to generate significant revenue for your pharmacy. We specialize in a few different weight loss product lines which means we have the flexibility to offer the patient the best solution for their lifestyle.
Your new weight loss clinic begins with adding signage to your physical location as well as through your existing social media. If social media isn’t a core competency for your business, don’t worry, as Raj can help develop a strong following and cultivate the word of mouth every independent pharmacy needs to be successful. Additionally, when people express frustration with their recent weight gain, suggestive selling is effective because the interaction with Shilpa & her team do not cost the patient anything.
The patient interaction with Shilpa’s team happens through technology such as Zoom where we ask questions, weigh patients, and map out the next steps for the patient to reach their goals, or maintain their desired weight. At the end of each session, the patient makes a product purchase through your pharmacy and those products, along with prescriptions or other needed items, can be delivered to them or they can come down to your location; whatever is easiest for them.
The good news is that we do not charge an upfront fee to launch your weight loss clinic. This opportunity is a true win-win because we split profits on the weight management products which means we have aligned business interests.
Are you ready to take control of your business future and return to growth? Please call now and we can begin the partnership to growing profits while providing a critical service to your patients.
